Zinciest
Part of speech: adjective
Definitions
- Having the greatest amount or concentration of zinc relative to other substances or samples
- Most abundant or prominent in zinc content compared to alternatives or counterparts
- Possessing the highest proportion of zinc among similar materials or options
Etymology: Zinciest is the superlative of "zincy," an adjective formed by adding the English suffix "-y" to "zinc" to mean having the look or qualities of the metal. Like other adjectives ending in "-y," it changes the "y" to "i" before adding "-er" for the comparative and "-est" for the superlative, so the most zinc-like thing is the zinciest. The metal's name is less settled. "Zinc" comes from German "Zink," and one proposed origin connects it to "Zinke," meaning prong or tooth, possibly a reference to the jagged deposits that form in smelting furnaces. This is a suggestion rather than a proven origin.
