Etymology: This term is a blend of "white" and "explaining," built on the older "mansplaining," which was itself formed by joining "man" and "explaining." The pattern is a clear one: a dominant group member explains a subject to someone whose lived experience of it is more direct, often with confidence that outruns knowledge. The blend makes the target group explicit in the coinage. The "-splaining" ending was not a root but a tail-end borrowed from the model word. Once a suffix-like piece caught on, writers could attach it to any identity group, which is why the family of coinages grew so quickly. Language users treated the pattern as productive, so the element was reused rather than the original meaning being preserved in the new form.
