Etymology: This is an inflected form: the plural of "westernization," a noun built from "western" plus the suffix "-ization." The suffix itself has a long pedigree. It traces back through Old French "-ation" and Latin "-tiō" to Proto-Indo-European roots, and it reached English by way of Middle French and Late Latin "-izō," which Greek-speaking scholars had long used to form verbs. English turned "western" into "westernize" on that model, and the noun "westernization" followed from it. Because "westernization" is a process noun, the plural "westernizations" simply counts separate instances of that process, such as the distinct reforms that different countries underwent.
