Etymology: "Warfronts" is simply the plural of "warfront", a compound of "war" and "front". The first element is the Old English "wær", and the second comes from Old French "front", which descends from Latin "frons", meaning forehead. A front, in this sense, is the face or foremost line of an army, the part turned toward the enemy, much as a person's forehead faces forward. The plural form follows the ordinary English pattern of adding "-s" to a noun. Because "warfront" is built transparently from two familiar words, its meaning is clear from its parts: the leading edge of armed conflict, where opposing forces meet.
