Etymology: The verb "visioned" is built from "vision" plus the suffix "-ed", which marks it as a past form or participle of a verb meaning to picture something in the mind. The noun "vision" traces back through Middle English "visioun" and Anglo-Norman "visioun" to Latin "visiō", a noun formed from "vīsus", the past participle of "vidēre", "to see". So at its root, a vision is literally a thing seen. The Latin root is the same one behind "visit", "visible" and "video", all coming from the idea of seeing. English took "vision" first in the sense of something seen, such as a sight or an apparition, and only later in the sense of an image formed by imagination or foresight.
