Etymology: "Viewscapes" is the plural of "viewscape," a noun formed by combining "view" with the suffix "-scape." That suffix has an interesting pedigree of its own: it was taken from "landscape," which entered English from Dutch "landschap" and was used for a picture of inland scenery before it came to mean the land itself. English speakers then detached "-scape" from that original word and began attaching it to other nouns, producing coinages such as "cityscape" and "seascape."
