Etymology: The past tense "videoed" is simply "video" with the regular -ed ending, so the story belongs to the verb it comes from. "Video" was built from the Latin verb "videō", meaning "to see", by taking its stem "vide-" and adding an "-o" ending. That "-o" was chosen on the pattern of "audio", the Latin word for "I hear" which had already given English a set of sound-related terms. The result is a word that pairs sight with sound. "Audio" was the older model, and "video" was shaped to match it, so a term for the visual half of broadcasting came out of a Latin verb whose meaning is simply "to see". The English verb "to video" then developed from that noun-like coinage, and "videoed" follows the usual pattern for verbs ending in a vowel sound.
