Etymology: "Videoblog" is a blend of two parts, and the second is the older one: "blog" was itself a clipped form of "weblog," a web log, and the "web" in that name points back to the World Wide Web. "Video" comes from Latin "videre," to see, which English borrowed as a word for the technology of recording and displaying moving pictures. Put together, the word describes a blog in which the posts are videos rather than text. The formation follows a familiar pattern. Once "blog" had become a standard term for a regularly updated online journal, writers began attaching prefixes to it to name variants, much as "photo-" and "audio-" were already in use. Adding "video-" to "blog" marks the difference plainly: the content is moving pictures and sound, but the diary-like, frequently updated format is the same.
