Etymology: "Verandaed" is simply "veranda" with the past-participle ending "-ed" added, so it describes something fitted with a veranda, such as a "verandaed" house. The adjective works just as "gabled" or "porched" do: the ending turns a noun into a description of a building that has the feature. The noun underneath it, "veranda," came into English from Hindi-Urdu "varandā," which in turn traces back to Portuguese "varanda," meaning a railing or balustrade. That Portuguese sense explains the original picture: the word first pointed to a barrier, and only later to the open, roofed platform that the railing enclosed.
