Uptilted

Part of speech: adjective

Definitions

  1. Describing an object or part that is angled upward, especially in relation to its usual horizontal or vertical position
  2. Indicating a position where something is raised or tilted towards an upward direction for functional or aesthetic reasons
  3. Referring to a state in which an element is elevated at an angle, often for the purpose of enhancing visibility or performance

Etymology: "Uptilted" is simply "up-" attached to "tilt," the verb meaning to tip or slant something out of level. The prefix "up-" here gives the sense of upward movement or direction, so something uptilted has been raised at one end, such as a nose, a chin, or a roof line. The formation is transparent: the word describes exactly the tilt that the parts already express. The verb "uptilt" was formed in English in the same plain way, by combining the directional prefix with an existing verb. "Uptilted" is the past form of that verb, which is why the adjective reads as a finished state: a thing that has already been tipped upward and now stays that way.
