Etymology: "Unsynchronizes" is simply "unsynchronize" with the third-person "-s" ending, so the verb's history is the history of its parts. "Synchronize" came into English in the 1600s from Late Latin "synchronizare," itself from Greek "synkhronizein," built from "syn-" meaning "together" and "khronos," meaning "time." The "un-" prefix, an Old English element meaning "not" or "reverse," was attached to make a verb that undoes the action: to take things that were running together and throw them out of step. Both halves are ordinary English formations. "Unsynchronize" is a rare word, mostly used in engineering, electronics, and computing, where signals or processes that once kept time together drift apart. Its earliest uses are recent relative to "synchronize," and the "un-" form is far less common than the base verb, so it reads as a technical coinage rather than an old word that has been worn smooth by use.
