Etymology: "Unshortened" is a plain English formation: the prefix "un-" attached to "shortened," the past participle of "shorten." The prefix goes back through Old English "un-" and Proto-Germanic "*un-," where it had the sense of "not," and it was a productive way of forming negatives from adjectives and participles, as it still is. "Shortened" itself is built from "short," an Old English word, with the verb-forming suffix "-en." Because "unshortened" is a transparent compound of two long-established parts, there is no separate story of coinage or shift in meaning to tell. It simply means "not having been made shorter," which is the sense the parts already carry.
