Etymology: "Unshifted" is a plain formation: the prefix "un-", meaning "not", attached to "shifted," the past participle of "shift." The prefix goes back to Old English "un-," which was already widely used to reverse or negate adjectives and participles, so English speakers could form a negative from almost any past participle without coining anything new. "Shift" itself has a more interesting past. It comes from Old English "sciftan," meaning to arrange or divide, and its sense of moving something from one place to another developed later. Because "unshifted" simply inverts that sense, it describes something that has stayed where it was, fixed in place or unchanged.
