Etymology: "Unsearched" is a plain formation: the prefix "un-" attached to "searched," the past participle of "search." The prefix is Old English in origin, meaning "not," and it has been used freely with participles ever since, so "unsearched" describes something that has not been looked through, explored or checked. The base "search" came into English from Old French "cerchier," itself from Latin "circare," meaning "to go round," from "circus," a circle. A search, in other words, began as a going around, a circuit made to find something. That circular movement is still visible in the older sense of the verb, which meant to traverse a place thoroughly.
