Undrawn

Part of speech: adjective

Definitions

  1. Not yet drawn, sketched or pictured on paper ; not taken out of an account or reserve ; not pulled shut or back, as with curtains
  2. Left unsketched or blank so far ; still held in place without being withdrawn ; kept open rather than being pulled across
  3. Having no picture or drawing made yet ; not removed from a fund or supply ; remaining open instead of being closed by a curtain or blind

Etymology: "Undrawn" is simply the prefix "un-" attached to "drawn," with no change in meaning beyond the plain negation. The prefix comes down through English from Old English "un-", which in turn descends from a Proto-Germanic form of the same negating element, and it has been used to reverse or negate adjectives and participles for as long as English has been recorded. "Drawn" itself is the past participle of "draw," so "undrawn" means "not drawn," as in a curtain left undrawn or a sword that has not been unsheathed.

Synonyms: unsketched, untraced
