Etymology: "Uncape" is a formation from the prefix "un-", meaning "reverse or undo," joined to "cape," so it means to remove a cape or to take off something that covers. Its relationship to "uncap" is a piecewise doublet: the two words developed in parallel from the same building blocks, with "uncap" being the more familiar form of the pair. The base "cape" is itself a word of obscure origin, and it came into English in the sense of a sleeveless outer garment. Adding "un-" to a noun or verb to reverse its action is a common English pattern, so "uncape" follows a regular productive model rather than a unique coinage.
