Etymology: "Unblushing" is a plain compound: the prefix "un-", meaning "not," attached to "blushing," the present participle of "blush." The "un-" comes from Old English, where it was a common negating prefix and had been inherited from Proto-Germanic, the same ancestor that gave English so many of its everyday negations. "Blush" is the older base here, and its story is about color rather than shame. The verb describes the reddening of the face, and "blushing" is the act of turning red. Adding "un-" reverses it, so "unblushing" describes a face that does not redden, which in ordinary use means someone who shows no embarrassment or guilt about something they might be expected to feel ashamed of.
