Etymology: "Unapostrophized" is formed from "un-", a prefix meaning "not" or "reversed", attached to "apostrophized," the past participle of "apostrophize." The base verb traces back through Late Latin "apostrophare" and Greek "apostrophē," meaning a turning away, and the word "apostrophe" entered English as a term for the punctuation mark and for a rhetorical address to an absent person. Because "apostrophize" already meant to address someone directly as if they were present, or to mark a word with the punctuation sign, adding "un-" produces the sense of having had that treatment removed or never applied. The word is therefore a straightforward negated form, and its meaning follows directly from its parts.
