Etymology: "Turkify" is a plain English formation: the noun "Turk" combined with the suffix "-ify," which turns a noun or adjective into a verb meaning "to make into" or "to cause to become" something. So to turkify something is to make it more Turkish, in character, language, or culture. The suffix does most of the work here. "-ify" came into English through Old French "-ifier" from Latin "-ificare," which itself was built from "facere," "to make." That is why so many verbs ending in "-ify" share the sense of making something. Familiar examples include "simplify," "clarify," and "beautify," all built the same way. The base word "Turk" has its own longer path into English, but in "turkify" it simply supplies the nationality or ethnicity that the new verb makes something more of.
