Etymology: "Thrivings" is simply the plural of "thriving," so it is the form of that word used when more than one instance or kind of flourishing is meant. "Thriving" is itself the present participle of "thrive," which comes into English from Old Norse "þrífask," a reflexive form meaning to grasp or lay hold of something for oneself, later shifting toward gaining, prospering and growing strong. The sense of success and abundance grew out of that older idea of seizing and making things your own.
