Etymology: "Textboards" is simply the plural of "textboard," a compound formed from "text" and "board." The first part comes from Latin "textus," meaning a woven thing or fabric, later used for the written words of a work. The second part is the ordinary English "board," a flat piece of wood or other rigid material. Put together, the compound describes a board that carries text, and the plural refers to more than one such board.
