Etymology: "Tangler" is a plain formation: the verb "tangle" with the agent suffix "-er," which turns a verb into a noun for the one who performs its action. So a tangler is whoever or whatever does the tangling, whether a person working at a knot or a force that snarls things up. The verb underneath it carries the older, more physical sense. "Tangle" describes threads, hair, or cords caught around one another, and the suffix simply names the agent of that action. The noun is therefore only as old as the verb it comes from, and it adds no meaning beyond identifying the doer.
