Etymology: "Superstud" is a plain compound: the prefix "super-", meaning "above, beyond, or to an extreme degree," joined to "stud." The prefix comes from Latin "super," "above" or "over," and it has long been used in English to intensify a word, as in "superhuman" or "supersonic." The second element, "stud," has its own colourful past. In Old English "stod" meant a post or upright support, and by the 1500s it had come to name a male horse kept for breeding, which is where the sense of a virile, sought-after man comes from. Applying that image to a man has a clear logic: a stud was valued for his looks, strength and reputation with the mares. Put together, "superstud" takes that breeding-stallion image and pushes it to the extreme, describing a man who is exceptionally attractive. The formation is informal and playful, and its meaning follows directly from its two parts.
