Definitions

  1. The study or branch of mathematics that combines principles of geometry with supersymmetry concepts ; a theoretical framework involving algebraic structures that extend classical geometry using elements that have both commuting and anticommuting coordinates ; an advanced mathematical discipline exploring geometric objects enriched by additional algebraic properties inspired by particle physics' supersymmetry theories
  2. A mathematical field integrating traditional geometrical ideas with superalgebraic extensions ; an area focusing on spaces formed from both ordinary dimensions and additional anticommuting variables ; a specialized domain dealing with geometric forms characterized by attributes from supersymmetric algebraic systems
  3. An interdisciplinary subject blending the rules of geometry with those of supersymmetric algebraic structures ; a conceptual realm encompassing spaces that include both numerical and Grassmann variables ; a complex mathematical theory extending classical geometric notions to accommodate superalgebraic components derived from quantum theories

Etymology: Supergeometry is a plain compound: the Latin prefix "super", meaning "above" or "over", attached to "geometry". The geometry half has a longer road behind it. It comes from Ancient Greek "geōmetría", built from "gê" (earth) and "métron" (measure), so the original sense was land-measuring, a practical craft long before it became a branch of abstract reasoning. The term passed into Latin as "geōmetria", then through Old French "geometrie" into Middle English as "gemetry", and the modern spelling settled in English later. The "super-" prefix does different work here than in everyday English. In supergeometry it signals that the geometry is extended to accommodate supersymmetric algebra, in which ordinary numerical coordinates sit alongside anticommuting Grassmann variables. The prefix thus marks an enlargement of the classical notion rather than a claim that the subject is grander or more powerful than ordinary geometry.
