Slugless
Part of speech: adjective
Definitions
- Free from slugs or devoid of the gastropod mollusks that typically infest gardens and plants
- Containing no slugs or unaffected by the presence of these slow-moving pests
- Without slugs or not inhabited by these slimy creatures
Etymology: "Slugless" is about as plain as English compounds get: it is simply "slug" with the suffix "-less" attached. The suffix comes from Old English "lēas", meaning "free from" or "lacking", which is also the source of words like "careless" and "fearless." Adding it to "slug" yields a word meaning "without slugs," so something that has no slugs or, in gardening and similar contexts, is not troubled by them.
Synonyms: slug-free
