Skysurfers
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- Athletes who leap from aircraft wearing a small motorized or non-motorized board strapped to their feet and perform aerial tricks and flips during freefall

- Extreme sports enthusiasts who jump from planes with a board affixed to their feet to perform freestyle aerial acrobatics during descent
Etymology: "Skysurfers" is the plural of "skysurfer", a compound of "sky" and "surfer". The sense is literal: a skysurfer is someone who rides a board through the air, a gliding descendant of the sport of surfing. The parts are plain English, and the combination is a modern coinage, formed by putting the two familiar words together in the way that gave us sandboarder, snowboarder and similar terms, where the new sport takes its name from the surface or medium it moves across.
