Etymology: "Sinusitises" is the plural of "sinusitis", the medical term for inflammation of the sinuses. The plural form is rarely needed, since clinicians usually speak of the condition in the singular, but it follows the ordinary English pattern for nouns ending in "-is". The base word "sinusitis" is built from two parts. The first is "sinus", borrowed from Latin, where it meant a curve, fold or hollow, and was later used for the air-filled cavities in the skull. The second is "-itis", the medical suffix for inflammation. That suffix comes from the Ancient Greek "-ῖτις" (-îtis), a feminine form used with "nosos" (disease) or "arthron" (joint) to name illnesses, and it was taken into New Latin before reaching English as "-itis".
