Etymology: "Rosiest" is the superlative of "rosy," so it takes its history from that base word. "Rosy" comes from Middle English, where it was formed by adding the suffix "-y," meaning "full of" or "having the quality of," to "rose." The flower name gave English a ready image of pink, healthy-looking skin, and "rosy" came to describe cheeks and complexions with that glow.
