Etymology: "Revitalisations" is the plural of "revitalisation," a noun formed from "revitalise" plus the suffix "-ation." The verb is itself built from "re-," meaning again, and "vital," from Latin "vitalis" (of life), so the whole chain is a stack of familiar pieces: give life back again, then the act or result of doing so. The "-ise" ending comes from Greek "-izein," which passed through Late Latin "-izare" and Old French into Middle English as "-isen," and "-ation" arrived through Old French "-acion" from Latin "-ātiō." Put together, "revitalise" entered English as a verb meaning to restore life or vigour, and "revitalisation" is the noun for that process. The "-s" simply marks the plural, counting separate instances of renewal, such as several rounds of funding or repeated campaigns to bring a place back to health.
