Revisitor
Part of speech: noun
Definitions
- A person who comes back to a place they have visited before, often on a repeated trip or return journey
- Someone who makes a second or later visit to the same location, such as a tourist returning to a favorite spot
- The individual who goes back again to somewhere previously seen, returning as a repeat guest or traveler
Etymology: "Visit" comes from Latin "visitare," a frequentative of "visere," meaning to go and look at something, which in turn is related to "videre," to see. A visitor is therefore etymologically one who keeps going to look. The prefix "re-" means "again," so "revisit" means to go and look again. "Revisitor" adds the Latin agent suffix "-or," which marks a person who performs an action, so it means one who comes back to see again. It is a rare, transparent formation, built directly from its parts rather than inherited as a separate word.
