Etymology: "Resynchronize" is a plain compound: the prefix "re-", meaning "again", attached to "synchronize". The prefix is productive in English, so new verbs built from it can appear whenever a fresh act of restoration is needed, and this one follows the same pattern. "Synchronize" itself is the element that carries the history. It comes from the Greek "syn", meaning "together", and "chronos", meaning "time", so the base sense is "to make things happen at the same time." Put the two halves together and "resynchronize" means to bring things back into step after they have drifted apart, whether that is two clocks, two recordings, or two systems that have fallen out of agreement.
