Etymology: "Reselect" is a plain formation: the prefix "re-", meaning "again", attached to "select." That makes the verb simply "to choose once more" after an earlier choice. The prefix comes from Latin "re-", which English has used productively for centuries to add a sense of repetition or return. "Select" itself was borrowed into English from Latin "selectus," the past participle of "seligere," which combined "se-" (apart, aside) with "legere," to gather or choose. The image underneath is of picking one thing out and setting it apart from the rest. That sense of separation is still present whenever someone reselects an option, pulling it back out of the group for a second look.
