Reseason
Part of speech: verb
Definitions
- To change the reasoning or logic behind a decision or conclusion
- To reconsider the basis of an argument or viewpoint
- To revise the justification or explanation for a particular stance or belief
Etymology: "Reseason" is a plain formation: the prefix "re-", meaning "again" or "anew," attached to "season" in the sense of applying reasoning or judgment to something. To reseason is to go back over an argument or decision and reconsider the grounds on which it rests, rather than simply repeating the conclusion. The base verb "season" in this sense comes from the older idea of making something fit for use through proper preparation, and in its reasoning sense it describes bringing a matter to sound judgment. Adding "re-" turns that into a second pass at the same process. The word is most useful when a conclusion has to be defended again from its foundations.
Synonyms: season again, flavor, spice
Antonyms: unseason, strip flavor
