Etymology: "Reposted" is the past tense of "repost," a verb built from the prefix "re-" (again) and "post" (to place or publish something where others can see it). The sense "post again" was in use long before social media, but the modern digital meaning is what most readers know: to share someone else's online content on one's own page or feed. "Post" itself has a longer and more physical history. It descends from Latin "ponere," "to place," through Old French "poste," which referred to a fixed station or relay point, and it was in English long before anyone sent letters by it. The idea of a rider stationed at successive stages, carrying messages from one post to the next, gave the word its sense of a postal service. From there, "post" came to mean any public notice or message fixed in a visible place, and that sense of putting something where others will see it is exactly what carries over into "repost."
