Remodellings

Part of speech: noun

Definitions

  1. Major alterations made to the structure or layout of buildings or rooms, often to update or improve them
  2. Instances of rebuilding or reshaping a space, object, or arrangement so that it looks or functions differently
  3. Renovations or reconstructions carried out on properties, systems, or designs to give them a new form

Etymology: "Remodellings" is simply the plural of "remodelling," so it inherits the whole history of that noun and of the verb behind it. The word is built from the prefix "re-", meaning again or anew, attached to "modelling," the act of shaping something in a particular form. "Modelling" itself descends from the Italian "modello" and the Latin "modulus," a small measure or standard, which is also why a model was originally a pattern to be copied. Putting the two parts together gives the sense of shaping something a second time, so that it takes on a new form.
