Etymology: This is an inflected form, so it needs only a sentence or two: "remasters" is the third-person singular present of the verb "remaster," which means to produce a new version of existing recorded media, such as an album or film, with improved sound or picture quality. The verb is simply "re-" attached to "master," so the real story sits in that base word. "Master" came into English from Latin "magister," meaning a teacher or leader, and reached Middle English through Old French "maistre," with the older Old English "mǣġester" alongside it. In its recording sense, a master is the original, authoritative copy from which all others are made. Adding "re-," meaning again, gives the sense of creating a fresh original from an earlier one.
