Etymology: "Relisting" is an inflected form of "relist," so its history is the history of the verb: "re-" added to "list" in the sense of putting names on a register. The base word "list" came into English in Middle English as "list," a strip or border, from Old French "liste," which in turn came from Medieval Latin "lista," a band or strip. The idea of a strip of paper or a roll of names grew out of that sense, so a list was originally a physical band before it became a catalogue. The prefix "re-" means "again," and it comes from Latin "re-" with the same meaning. Put together, "relist" means to place something on a list once more, for instance an item for sale online that is put back up after it fails to sell. The word is a straightforward compound, formed in English from two parts already in use.
