Etymology: To confirm something is, at root, to make it firm. English "confirm" comes from Latin "confirmare," built from "con-," here meaning thoroughly, and "firmare," to make firm, from "firmus," firm or steady. A confirmation was therefore a strengthening of something already established. Adding the prefix "re-," meaning again, gives "reconfirm": to make firm once more. The plural "reconfirmations" names the repeated acts of doing so. Each one restores a footing that an earlier confirmation had already given.
