Etymology: "Recastings" is simply the plural of "recasting", the noun formed from "recast" by adding a suffix to the verb. "Recast" itself is built from the prefix "re-", meaning again, and "cast", which in this sense means to shape something by pouring molten material into a mould. So a recasting is an act of forming material into a shape a second time, and the plural form refers to several such acts, or to several occasions when a plan, role or statement has been reworked.
Synonyms: remoldings, reshapings
