Etymology: This is the simple past and past participle of "reanalyze," which means to examine something again after it was first studied. The verb combines the prefix re-, meaning "again," with "analyze." "Analyze" comes from the Greek "analyein," meaning "to loosen up" or "undo," built from "ana," meaning "up" or "back," and "lyein," meaning "to loosen." The sense of breaking a whole into parts for study grew out of that literal unloosening, so something reanalyzed has had its parts taken apart once more to be seen afresh.
