Etymology: "Practising" is the British spelling of the present participle of "practise", the verb form that English writers use for the action of doing something repeatedly to improve. The interesting part lies in the spelling split. British English keeps "practise" as the verb and "practice" as the noun, while American English uses "practice" for both.
