Postambles

Part of speech: noun

Definitions

  1. Sections or remarks inserted at the end of a text or document that serve to provide supplementary information, reflections, or concluding comments
  2. Additional elements placed after the main body of written work meant to offer clarifications, final thoughts, or supplementary data
  3. Concluding parts of a manuscript or speech positioned after the primary content to add closing information, observations, or follow-up explanations

Etymology: "Postambles" is simply the plural of "postamble", a noun for closing text sections. The base word was modelled on "preamble", the introductory part of a document, with "post-" (meaning "after") swapped in for "pre-" (meaning "before"). Since "preamble" itself comes from Latin roots meaning "walk before", "postamble" is effectively its mirror image, built to name whatever follows the main body rather than what precedes it.

Synonyms: epilogues, conclusions, closings, endings, afterwords
