When Epperson was asked what he called the product, his kids reportedly called it "Pop's 'sicle," the "pop" being their name for their father, and the trade name Popsicle was born from that blend. The word has since become a generic term for any frozen treat on a stick, though it began as a family nickname attached to an accidental invention.
