Etymology: "Plugg" is a word that started life as a tag at the end of a song. Producers in the rap and beat-making scene would close a track with a short spoken or sung announcement, "Plug!", to credit the person who made the beat and to advertise them to listeners. The members of the BeatPluggz collective recorded vocals for these tags, and the spelling "Plugs!" came first before the form "Plugg" took hold. From there the sense shifted from the act of a tag to the act of promoting someone. In online music culture, "plugging" a track means pushing it to a wider audience, and the spelling with a double "g" is the one used in that scene. The word's meaning as a noun, referring to a stopper filling a gap, is a separate and older sense, so the music term is the more recent use.
