Etymology: "Pees" is the third-person singular and plural form of "pee," the everyday verb for passing urine. The verb it belongs to has a surprisingly blunt ancestry: "pee" is the initial letter of "piss," pronounced as its own sound and then turned into a word in its own right, a bit like how "eff" stands in for "f" in spelled-out swear words. The letter-name trick is the same one behind other polite euphemisms, which take an initial and let the listener supply the rest. "Pee" thus carries the full coarseness of "piss" while sounding less offensive in mixed company, and that euphemistic role is the whole reason it exists.
