Etymology: "Passion" started out as a word for suffering. It comes through Old French from Latin "passio," from "pati," "to suffer" or "to endure." The sense of strong feeling grew out of that root, and the word's Christian meaning, the suffering of Christ, is the older of the two in English. "Passionable" is simply "passion" with the suffix "-able," from Latin "-abilis," meaning "capable of being" or "able to be." So a passionable person is one who is capable of being moved to passion, or easily stirred to strong feeling.
