Etymology: "Orientedness" is a plain formation: the adjective "oriented" with the suffix "-ness", which turns an adjective into a noun for a state or quality. "Oriented" itself comes from "orient", a verb meaning to position something relative to the compass points, or to align oneself with a direction, and the adjective carries that sense of being pointed or set toward something. Adding "-ness" gives the abstract noun for the condition of being set in that direction. The sense of aim or values attached to the word is a figurative extension of that spatial idea. Being oriented toward a goal means being turned toward it, much as a map is set to north. The noun therefore describes a disposition of attention and direction rather than a physical position.
