Etymology: "Organizationally" is a plain adverb built in two steps: "organizational" (itself formed from "organization" plus the adjective-forming suffix "-al") plus the adverb-forming suffix "-ly." The adjective suffix traces back through Old French and Latin "-alis" to a root meaning something like "pertaining to," while the adverb suffix descends from Old English "-līċe," a relative of the word "like" in its old sense of "form" or "appearance." So the ending literally says "in the form of" or "in the manner of" whatever the adjective describes. The word therefore means "in an organizational manner," that is, in a way that concerns or follows the structure of an organization. The stem "organization" itself came into English from Latin "organum," the word for an instrument or tool, which is why a structure of parts working together carries the same root as a musical organ.
