Etymology: "Officializations" is the plural of "officialization," a noun built from "official" plus the suffix "-ization." The base "official" came into English in the late 14th century, borrowed from Old French "official," which in turn came from medieval Latin "officialis," meaning a person holding an office or administrative post, ultimately from Latin "officium" (duty, service). The "-ize" verb suffix, from Greek "-izein" through Latin "-izare," was productive in English from the 1600s onward, and "-ation" (from Latin "-atio") turns the resulting verb into an action noun. Because "officialize" is itself a later formation, the noun "officialization" is recorded only from the 19th century, and it is a relatively rare, technical-sounding term used mainly in legal, governmental, and academic writing. Its plural simply counts repeated instances of this process, such as separate decisions that turn an informal arrangement into a recognized one.
