Etymology: "Oculogyric" is a technical coinage built from two Latin-and-Greek-style combining forms, "oculo-" (from Latin "oculus", eye) and "gyro-" (from Greek "gyros", circle or turn), joined by the adjective ending "-ic". Nobody in antiquity used it. It was assembled in modern times from classical building blocks, the way scientific and medical vocabulary usually is. The word describes a specific condition: the eyes rolling or turning involuntarily, often upward, as a symptom of certain neurological disorders. The pairing is literal. "Oculo-" names the eye and "gyro-" names the turning, so the term reads almost like a description of the thing itself, "eye-turning."
